CeeDee Lamb, the Dallas Cowboys’ third-year wide receiver, has come under a lot of criticism this season. He’s dropped a career-high eight passes this season. This statistic illustrates the importance of a historic moment for the Cowboys. It’s the most drops by a player in a single season since Dez Bryant dropped nine in 2012. As the Cowboys get ready to play the Kansas City Chiefs, Lamb has his eyes set on making up for lost opportunity last week.
In the Cowboys’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, Lamb consistently struggled with dropped passes — three in total. All he could do was put his mind toward refinishing his skills the day after. At The Star, he enthusiastically and expertly caught passes from the Jugs machine. Lamb’s dedication to perfecting his craft speaks for itself, as he himself once said, “You just learn how to get better.”
And despite curtailing his previous campaign by three games with a high ankle sprain this season, Lamb has regained his health. In Week 2, he showcased his potential with nine catches for 112 yards in a win against the New York Giants. Lamb currently has 44 receptions for 632 yards and two touchdowns in just eight games. Still, even with his excellent catch rate, his eight drops remain a clear cause for concern.
Six of those drops have come in games against the Eagles, raising questions on where his mind is at. Lamb himself addressed this issue, admitting, “It’s really just lack of focus on my end, honestly.” He emphasized his responsibility in addressing the problem, stating, “I’m the only one guarding myself, I feel like. We are going to fix that.”
Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Lamb’s abilities and assured that he would receive ample opportunities against the Chiefs. Schottenheimer remarked, “There will be plenty of balls going to CeeDee Lamb on Thursday afternoon.” Having the support from the coaching staff may only continue to help build Lamb’s confidence as he looks to contribute in a big way.
Dak Prescott, the Cowboys’ quarterback, confirmed Schottenheimer’s point of view. During his weekly press conference, he said he was looking forward to a huge game from Lamb on…. Thanks to the encouragement and support of his teammates and the coaching staff, Lamb is intent on reversing the trend of this season.
