Cavs Star Donovan Mitchell Faces Injury Setback During Game 4

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell is doubtful to return to Game 4 of the playoff series against the Indiana Pacers due to a left ankle injury. On May 11, 2025, just before warm-ups for halftime, Mitchell suddenly was hit with a searing pain in his ankle. He had to stop halfway through a shot fake and doubled over in agony. The team’s athletic trainers rushed to his side on the floor.

Now, Mitchell’s performance leading up to this incident had been nothing short of stellar. He came into Game 4 fresh off two 40-point games in a row. No Cavaliers player has completed this remarkable achievement since LeBron James. Like many players, as players got used to him in the first half of the game, he had to make adjustments. He was limited to 12 points on 3 of 11 shooting, including 1 of 5 from three-point range in 20 minutes of action.

As the second half neared, it started to sink in that Mitchell wouldn’t be hitting the floor with her team today. He didn’t even make it back to the locker room before the third quarter began. This worried everyone, from fans to teammates, about his well-being. At one point during the game, the Cavaliers were beating the Pacers 80-39 at halftime. Even as they were bouncing back, Mitchell’s injury derailed much of that momentum.

Jamal Collier reported on Mitchell’s status, noting that his absence could significantly impact the Cavaliers’ strategy moving forward in the series. The team immediately needs to evaluate the severity of the injury and the availability of Mitchell moving forward to upcoming games.
