Cavaliers Dominate Heat in Game 1 of Eastern Conference Playoffs

The Cleveland Cavaliers ran roughshod over the Miami Heat in their Game 1 of this recently star-crossed Eastern Conference first-round playoff series. They capped off the complete domination with a decisive victory, defeating the Sacramento Kings 121-100 on Sunday evening. The Cavaliers flexed their offensive muscle, led by Donovan Mitchell who notched 30 points. Absent Moody, it was Jerome who really rose to the occasion in that fourth quarter against the Pelicans.

And certainly on the Cavaliers, Mitchell played an absolutely gigantic role. Aside from those two goals, he continued to score and produce chances for his teammates during the match. His 30 points were a reminder of his talent, but they served as a microcosm for how well the Cavaliers came out swinging. Fourth, Ty Jerome dominated the final minute of the game. He finished the game with 28 points with 16 of those coming in the fourth quarter alone. His clutch scoring had a large role in the Cavaliers forcing the Deacons to play from behind and riding that wave to a strong 21-point win.

That first night game ever played in Broward County helped usher in the 2017 playoff series, which continues to be monumental for both franchises. The Cavaliers came into the much-anticipated matchup looking to prove themselves, and they did just that on the field. With Jerome’s impressive stretch run and Mitchell’s consistent offensive presence the squad proved they could play with anyone.

The Heat were unable to match up against the Cavaliers, struggling defensively and offensively all game long. Though they tried, they simply could not keep up with Cleveland’s firepower and precision, leading to an ugly 44-point loss. The loss adds pressure to the Heat, as they will need to bounce back in Game 2 of the series.

With the Eastern Conference playoffs well underway, the Cavaliers will look to capitalize off this good salting as they move into Game 2. Their commanding showing in Game 1 bodes well for their postseason aspirations. The Heat have some major re-grouping to do in short order. Florida needs to address their faults if they want to compete properly against Cleveland, especially throughout this series.
