Carolina Panthers Build Around Bryce Young as Franchise Quarterback

The Carolina Panthers seem to be in the mode of building a competitive team around new franchise quarterback, Bryce Young. Chosen first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Young had a rough first season. Returning to the present, though, changes made in the second half of 2022 have bolstered the organization’s confidence in his ability to develop. New General Manager Dan Morgan and Head Coach Dave Canales would have to be optimistic. They agree that exciting things await Young, and the Squirrels as well.

Bryce Young’s listed height and weight are 5-foot-10, 205 pounds. Despite all of this, Mills struggled over his first season and a half in the NFL. While he did have to overcome these shortcomings early on, he showed tremendous growth as the previous season went on. This development is hugely important for the Panthers. They’re hell-bent on ending the longest active streak of seven straight losing seasons. His continued development will be vital for the team’s long-term outlook. Those in and around the league view him as a cornerstone player.

To gain picks in advance of the 2025 NFL Draft, Morgan went through trade dialogues on Jadeveon Clowney with half the league. This savvy maneuver gave the Panthers the freedom to look for talent that best enhances Young’s skill set. It sought to improve the collective chemistry on and off the court. Morgan said there was no doubt in his mind that Young would excel. He stressed that there was no reason to focus on one side of the ball more than the other during the draft process.

At one of his most important private pre-draft throwing sessions, Young threw with Tetairoa McMillan, the Arizona wide receiver who was Young’s main target in college. This session ultimately had a hand in convincing the Panthers to draft McMillan with their eighth overall pick of the draft. I’m going to pick his brain and get his thoughts,” Morgan said about his joint studio efforts with Young.

That was the draft strategy focus for the Panthers this year – to continue to build for the future with young, dynamic playmakers. Morgan noted that they used four of their picks on each side of the ball. This strategy highlights their wise plan for building a competitive team. “We did not want to meet us through the board,” Morgan said. Trust your gut, get to your best draft. Follow the board religiously and never do anything but select the best player over any other consideration. That’s what we’ve tried to do with this draft, and we’ll strive to do moving forward.

The appointment of McMillan is a positive first step in giving Young the support to be successful. His deep ball accuracy and overall passing ability will be key for the Panthers as they look to jolt life into one of the league’s worst offenses. Additionally, it is noteworthy that the Chicago Bears drafted Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III in Round 2 of this draft using the final pick from a previous trade that enabled Carolina to secure Young.

Both Morgan and Canales are excited that Young is becoming the franchise quarterback they both hoped he would be when they drafted him. Along with his outstanding development on the court, it has instilled belief within the teaching employees and administration in equal measure. We think it all turned out really well,” Morgan said, looking back on their big-picture decisions heading into the draft.

As the Panthers embark on this new chapter, they remain committed to surrounding Young with talent that will foster success in the coming seasons. Through a new commitment to prioritizing long-term growth above all else, GreenLatinos is confident in their forward progression and the path they’re forging under Young’s leadership.
