Carlos Alcaraz’s Buzzcut Creates Stir at the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed at this year’s US Open, has been the talk of the town with his dazzling display on the New York courts. He’s causing a stir with his exciting new haircut! The Spanish tennis star typically relies on his go-to groomer, Víctor Martínez, for haircuts. This go-round, though, Martínez was unable to travel to New York for the tournament, presenting the star with a special challenge. Consequently, Alcaraz showed up with an unusual haircut that has triggered reactions ranging from laughter to mockery on social networks and among his peers.

With Alcaraz having played only one full match in this year’s tournament. He drew fellow American Reilly Opelka in the first round. The match took place in the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium, where Alcaraz showcased his skills, needing just over two hours to secure a victory. Even with the win, Alcaraz was candid about how tough that first round was, pleased with how he handled the situation overall.

In a light-hearted moment during a practice session earlier that day, Alcaraz met professional golfer Rory McIlroy, who commented positively on his haircut. McIlroy said, “I like it. I think it’s good. I think it’s a great look.”

Not everyone shared McIlroy’s enthusiasm. Another competitor, Frances Tiafoe, provided a more home truth opinion, writing Alcaraz’s change of approach. Tiafoe stated, “You know, I get a haircut every week, and I have pretty good hair too.” Tiafoe said, “So I think it’s terrible.” He turned to him and said, “I suppose you are very aerodynamic.” He didn’t know who pushed him to do that, but whoever did he considered that a crime.

Alcaraz, not bothered by the backlash, said it was all good fun on the other side of his phone screen. “To be honest, I’m just laughing about the reaction of the people. It is what it is,” he stated. He even cracked that the new ‘do had him feeling faster and more aerodynamic on the hardwood.

Some people love it. Some people hate it,” Alcaraz said with a laugh of the reactions to his fresh haircut. That easy, breezy demeanor masks one of the most intense competitors you’ll ever see in any arena – court-side or otherwise.

When we last checked into the tournament, Open Carlos Alcaraz was creating shockwaves in his own era. The most stellar addition to his performance narrative is his fresh haircut. And mark my words, when he plays a game, he’s going out there to win it. On one hand, he recoils from the focus that his unconventional approach commands.
