Our very own Caribbean Premier League (CPL) officially kicked off on August 15th with the start of its 2024 season, the most awaited season. This year’s tournament features 34 thrilling games. There are 30 exciting group stage games to showcase the best of the best in West Indies cricket. The CPL, established in 2013, stands as the region’s first commercial Twenty20 league, drawing widespread attention from cricket fans both locally and globally.

The tournament involves six franchises: Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings, and Trinbago Knight Riders. Each team will play every other franchise twice in a double round robin. This exciting World Cup group stage certainly ensures some fierce matchups! This new format increases competition. It provides squads a multitude of opportunities to try and secure an at-large bid to the field of 68 participants.

Matches are scheduled to be played in six colorful Caribbean cities. As for the venues of the event, incredible! They showcase Warner Park in St Kitts, Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia and more. These unique locations give fans from all over the world a chance to be a part of the tournament and cheer on their home nation.

The first part of the format, the group stage, will take place until September 15, when the top four teams will progress to the playoffs. The playoffs will culminate in a series of crucial matches, beginning with the Eliminator on September 17 at 01:00 BST, where the third and fourth placed teams will battle for a chance to progress. After that, Qualifier 1, starring the top two teams, is set for September 18 at the same time. Qualifier 2 on September 20 will be the winner of the Eliminator facing off against the loser of Qualifier 1. The tournament will reach its peak with the Final on September 22 at 01:00 BST, where the winners of the two qualifiers will compete for the championship title.

In the past, the Jamaica Tallawahs won the very first CPL tournament. In a nail-biter of a final, the Saint Lucia Kings pulled off the championship in 2024 after a turbulent season. This championship victory was their first in CPL history. With the format of this year and the competitive spirit, the matches are sure to be exhilarating with each franchise vying for their piece of glory.
