Kyler Murray— the team’s QB of the future — is unlikely to play after suffering a foot injury. His status means Murray will sit out a third consecutive game. This new issue has sidelined him from playing and affected his ability to step on the field.
Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon admitted that Murray’s injury isn’t 100 percent healed. As such, he will miss Monday night’s game against the Rams. Gannon was optimistic about Murray’s progress but stressed that the decision to keep him out is all about health.
“He’s got really good command, understands what we’re trying to get done with each play,” Gannon stated when discussing Murray’s abilities. Murray’s done a lot in terms of increasing his work load this past week — I’ll give him that,” he observed. He is not yet prepared to begin.
Gannon said the team would be evaluating Murray’s status over the next 48 hours. They are working to determine if he can play in the game, though he has not ruled out placing him on injured reserve. “I’m not trying to be coy, but there’s a lot of different scenarios that can happen in two days that you would make the decision what’s best for the player and best for the team,” Gannon explained.
The loss of Murray, a rookie quarterback often lauded for his quick, veteran-like decision making, presents the Cardinals with plenty of issues. He’s already missed two games with no sign of a return. He’s looked like he’s coming along still and not enough to beat a consistent backfield like the Cowboys.
In the interim, it’ll be up to Brissett to run the offense. He’s been training all his life for this moment and displayed unwavering faith in his squad to deliver the goods. “When you look at the film and you see plays in these critical situations where we know that we can close the gap, I think that’s the thing that we’re looking forward to doing this week,” Brissett remarked.
Gannon didn’t commit when pressed about whether Murray’s injury would lead to long-term consequences, further emphasizing the unknowns regarding his situation. The Cardinals are just getting warmed up preparing for their upcoming showdown with Dallas. Throughout the storm, they will continue to rely on Brissett’s poise and leadership to guide them through this tough stretch.
