Campbell Optimistic About Lions’ Roster Ahead of New Season

Dan Campbell, head coach of the Detroit Lions, talked glowingly about the depth on this year’s roster. Entering his fifth and final season with the Sun Devils, Campbell is looking forward to the upcoming year. He thinks this is the most talented collection of players he’s had since arriving in Detroit. Our Detroit Lions are just days away from their 2019 season opener! They’ll kick-off the season by going up against the Green Bay Packers on 7th September.

Campbell emphasized the advancements achieved in recent years, highlighting that the franchise has raised the standard of play. He stated, “Year 5, this is the best we’ve felt about it from top to bottom.” He has immense faith in the players. The other side of general manager Brad Holmes’ confidence is the faith he has in the coaching staff and overall team structure.

As cut-down day looms on Tuesday, Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes are going to have some difficult choices to make about who gets cut. These choices may have deep ramifications on the team’s chemistry as they head into battle against their division foes this Sunday in Green Bay.

The Lions feature one of the NFL’s most potent offensive attacks headlined by veteran signal caller Jared Goff. Emerging stars such as Amon-Ra St. Brown, Kerby Joseph and Penei Sewell have each received first-team All-Pro selections. Whether it’s the offense, defense, or special teams, Coach Campbell is positive about the high performance they can all bring to the table.

I think it’s certainly up there. I mean it’s a real good unit. We’re healthy, we’re moving forward, improving, we learn from our mistakes, Campbell noted. First on Pagano’s list of keys to the team’s fortunes this year was health and improvement.

For all his bravado, Campbell was the first to concede that no roster is perfect. “Now, that being said, there’s still holes, but I bring this up all the time, every roster has holes,” he explained. He added that while perfection is unattainable, the team’s growth over the years is a positive sign for their upcoming campaign.

Beyond the pitch Campbell juggles an already overwhelming schedule with family life, considering himself fortunate to be a father of one, son Ethan. His commitment to both his professional and personal responsibilities reflects his dedication to building a strong foundation both on and off the field.
