Cameron Ward Reflects on Titans Offense Amidst Struggles

On Tuesday, Cameron Ward, the quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, had an abysmal day of practice. He threw three interceptions that day and has now thrown four picks over the last two practices. Even with all the adversity, offensive coordinator Brian Callahan isn’t wavering in Ward’s guidance. He believes Ward has a rare understanding of how to run the offense’s show.

Ward recognized the challenges he faced, admitting, “I just think we’re very mid right now. He emphasized that improvement begins with him, asserting, “At the end of the day, it all starts with me.” This frank self-critique is, at heart, a desire to do better as he writes and puts into action his iron man’s guide to the playbook.

The quarterback truly loves pouring into his teammates and invest in forming relationships with all of them. I mean, the guy throws to 15 or 16 different players each day! Despite struggling with deep passes, he successfully connected with Calvin Ridley on one such throw, which fell between defenders Amani Hooker and Darrell Baker Jr. Of course, not every attempt was a success. Ward was on the money with a deep post route throw, but Jha’Quan Jackson couldn’t quite complete the catch.

Callahan complimented Ward’s toughness and said he knew the freshman would respond after laying an egg at ECU last week. He called Ward’s unusual wiring a gift from God — the kind of wiring that could give him the chance to continue developing and advancing.

In practice on Wednesday, new Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley went down with a lower leg injury today. Our team immediately rushed him inside to assess his condition. Ridley’s issues compound the Titans’ concerns. They’re well beyond that stage at this point, already deep into the weeds on perfecting their offensive strategy.

Ward wrapped his comments with an admission that yes, he has to improve on timing and ball placement. He stated, “I have to get on the same page with my receivers, watch more film, and be more accurate with the football.” His spirit speaks volumes to his effort to improve as he again approaches a critical season.
