With the 2025 NFL Draft approaching, Cam Ward has emerged as one of the top quarterback prospects in the country. He’s put on a great display of his abilities during the 2024 campaign. Ward is listed at 6’4, 236 and looks every bit of it. Scouts can’t get enough of his size, arm talent and uncommon movement skills. His performance thus far has vaulted him up to QB6 on the Scouts Inc. Many scouts project he’ll end up in the 1st round.
Ward’s 2024 season statistics are particularly eye-catching. His completion percentage was a staggering 73.0%. His passing yardage totaled 4,010 yards with a touchdown to interception ratio of 35-10. He flashed his arm talent when zipping accurate throws while facing heavy pressure. He immediately identified the illegal 12th man on the field, then just dropped an absolute dime of a seam pass in between the defenders. His awareness and creativity as a thrower really came through on this play. All of these truly remarkable traits that Stetson has will continue to impress NFL teams.
Despite his stellar resume, Ward has his warts. He does show off some of that “knuckleheaded” nature that will need to be polished as he moves to the pro level. His offensive system simplifies decision making by getting the ball in playmakers’ hands fast, ideally behind the line of scrimmage. That’s not to say this approach wasn’t a great way to undervalue his elite ability to read defenses.
Ward’s playstyle certainly embodies his twitchy playmaking, big-armed gunslinger approach as a quarterback engineered to get the football downfield at any cost. His aggressive approach sets him apart from his peers, but it may require adjustments to ensure he maximizes his potential at the next level. NFL teams will be keen to assess how well he can adapt his game, particularly in a league where decision-making is crucial.
The Cleveland Browns have enough – and more – draft capital to make a move up in the draft. If Ward drops into their suitable range, they certainly appear willing to try and go get him. His combination of elite size and skill set makes him an attractive candidate for teams looking to solidify their future at the quarterback position.
