Cam Ward Aims for Top Spot in 2025 NFL Draft After Record-Setting Season

Former Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward believes he’s “solidified” his spot. He’s confident he’ll be the number one overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward opted not to participate in most of the drills at his pro day but still impressed over 90 NFL team personnel, bringing a full staff from the Tennessee Titans. In his only season with Miami in 2024, he established a plethora of school records. His performance has turned the heads of everyone, but it’s left Ward supremely self-assured about where he stands in the process.

Ward’s improbable path to NFL stardom first began with the Incarnate Word Hawks. Back in 2020, he entered the program as a zero-star recruit out of West Columbia, Texas. In only 19 games over those two seasons, he passed for a staggering 6,908 yards and 71 touchdowns. Ward’s sophomore year, he transferred to Washington State, where he was an absolute monster. He accumulated 6,966 passing yards and tossed 48 touchdowns over those two seasons before transferring to Miami.

During his three years with the Hurricanes, Ward set single-season passing yards, completions, passing touchdowns, and completion percentage records. His accomplishments have catapulted him to become a Heisman Trophy finalist. He owns the FCS and FBS marks for passing touchdowns, throwing a dazzling 158 of them.

That confidence was on full display during Ward’s pro day workout when he threw down a dunk-like pass. He held detailed discussions with Titans GM Mike Borgonzi and president of football operations Chad Brinker.

"[I told them] 'I'm solidifying it today,'" said Cam Ward.

His historic dominance on the field has not missed the eye of NFL scouts.

"They finally got to see me throw in person. That should be all they need to see," he stated.

Ward’s known across the league for his admiration for Titans head coach Brian Callahan as well. He said he’d be thrilled if they got to work with him, pointing to Callahan’s role in helping develop Joe Burrow during his rookie season.

"I think Coach Callahan's one of the best head coaches out there. The things he did with Joe Burrow when he first got into the league made him be real successful," Ward remarked.

Ward’s journey from zero-star recruit to one of the favorites to be chosen in the NFL draft first round speaks volumes about both his talent and resolve.

"I think all I needed was a chance to play in a quarterback-driven system," Ward explained.
