Cam Skattebo Defends WWE Cameo Amid Injury Recovery Criticism

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo just came face to face with one of WWE’s best and brightest. This decision caused deserved outrage because he is still recovering from a serious ankle injury. In the meantime, the 16-time Saratoga winner was ringside at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night for UFC 322. There, he participated in a clearly staged fight with other players on his team at a WWE event.

Skattebo, who suffered an open fracture and ruptured ligament in his right ankle, has been sidelined for the season. Incomprehensibly, though, he was later out and about wearing a New York Rangers jersey. While the injury has prevented him from being active on the football field, he has been very much involved in the entertainment industry. At the WWE event, he had a notable run-in with wrestler JD McDonagh. With a single, double-handed shove, he initiated narrative-baiting conflict.

Despite being on the mend, Skattebo’s involvement in the skit drew criticism from some fans and commentators who questioned his decision to participate in such antics while still recovering. The rookie running back responded to his critics on social media, emphasizing the importance of finding joy during tough times.

“Aye, honestly if you don’t like that I’m having a good time while dealing with a tough time, then just go ahead and unfollow and casually move on. I’m not able to play football and have the fun I’ve been having my whole life, so I am doing things outside the box trying to find stuff to keep me happy. Enjoy the rest of y’all’s week and just don’t talk about me if you ain’t got nothing nice to say 🫡” – Cam Skattebo (via X)

Skattebo’s participation in the WWE event coincided with John Cena’s final appearance at the venue. Fellow first-year Abdul Carter teamed up with comedian Andrew Schulz in the brutal tussle. Together, they created a thrilling cocktail of sport and show business.

His teammates all have their own words to describe the wild man Skattebo, as Lucky Andrew Thomas said, “Cam’s crazy. This reputation is the likely reason why he was even willing to participate in such farces, regardless of how badly he was hurt. His actions appear to reflect a desire to maintain a connection with fans and the sport he loves while navigating personal challenges.

Now, Skattebo doesn’t require a scooter to move around. Most notably, he still wears a protective boot on his injured ankle. He is yet fully recovered and deeply invested in figuring out alternative ways to have fun beyond the game of football.
