Cam Jurgens, the Philadelphia Eagles’ promising center, hasn’t signed a big money extension yet—but he’s reached a four-year extension at an average of $17 million per year. The agreement, which extends through 2029, boosts his earning power mightily, bringing his average annual value up to $17 million. This contract is the second highest for centers in the entire NFL. Only Creed Humphrey of the Kansas City Chiefs is better on average.
At 25 years old, Jurgens was entering the last year of his rookie deal prior to signing this extension. The substantial agreement includes $39.4 million guaranteed, underscoring the team’s confidence in his abilities and future contributions to the franchise.
Yet despite glance appearances, Jurgens’ path to this contract extension hasn’t been a smooth ride. Earlier this year, he had a complicated back procedure, designed to relieve severe nerve pain. Doctors expect him to make a complete recovery by July. This more realistic timeline will make sure that he’s ready for the start of training camp and the regular season.
During his time with the Eagles, Jurgens has proven to be stout and dynamic. He filled in superbly when longtime veteran Jason Kelce retired. He provided key depth, particularly when Landon Dickerson exited a game with a knee injury. In case you missed it, he played through debilitating back pain all second-half long against the Washington Commanders. It was an inspiring display of determination.
The Eagles’ offensive line has been instrumental in paving the way for record-breaking performances, including Saquon Barkley’s remarkable rushing season. Jurgens’ contributions have been pivotal in maintaining the line’s effectiveness during transitions and injuries.
His teammate Jason Kelce expressed his enthusiasm for Jurgens’ new contract, stating:
“Big Extension, yuge! Happy for the big man, deserves every penny!” – Jason Kelce
