Cam Jordan is a veteran defensive lineman for the New Orleans Saints. As he plays his 15th season in the NFL, he’s playing like he’s ageless, surpassing all expectations. After signing a restructured contract last March worth up to $6 million if he meets all incentives, Jordan has taken every opportunity to prove his worth. He is the Saints’ oldest defensive lineman on the roster by a wide margin of years. He is unapologetic about his mileage and still packs a punch.
Jordan expressed his commitment to the game and his team, stating, “My goal is to win. Sitting at 2-10 and the team has always incentivized some part of my contract. I’ve never once played for those incentives.” His dedication to football is obvious from his performances on the field. He leads the team with nine pressures overall and is third on the team in pressure percentage.
In recent weeks, Jordan’s effects have been far more pronounced. He had a great strip sack on a QB against the Atlanta Falcons. With this monumental play, he passed Dwight Freeney on the NFL’s all-time sack list. For Jordan, this accomplishment is the realization of a long-held dream. After all, he grew up idolizing Freeney, a Pro Football and College Football Hall of Famer. In 2023, Jordan passed Will Smith to become the Saints’ all-time sack leader, solidifying his legacy within the franchise even more.
“Give me a chance. Let’s see what I do with it,” Jordan remarked regarding his approach to the season. His motivation is clear as he aims to reinvent himself and further help the team win, as he’s always done since joining the NFL.
Jordan’s ability to remain effective at 36 years old is not only impressive but serves as an inspiration to his teammates. Linebacker Demario Davis, as well, boasts the same veteran lineage as Jordan. He still frequently jests with him for being the old man on the field. They each understand the difficulties of growing older in this labor-intensive sport. Yet, they face these challenges with an indomitable spirit and humor.
Jordan showed the football world what he’s capable of doing, when he put on a show against the Miami Dolphins. He recorded two sacks in that game, bringing his season total to 6.5. The strong performance was enough to net him a $600,000 performance-based incentive just five minutes into the game. Coming off a disappointing season, Jordan is feeling re-energized, ready to tackle fresh opportunities and carve out a space for himself.
