Calais Campbell Joins Miami Dolphins for 18th NFL Season

Calais Campbell agrees to terms with Miami Dolphins. As a long-time defensive tackle with New Orleans, this move is a significant darkhorse step in Jerry’s ebullient history. The $5.5 million, one-year contract includes unspecified incentives that increase its maximum value to $7.5 million. The signing is part of Campbell’s attempt to add depth and experience to the Dolphins’ young, talented defense.

Legendary Campbell, now in his 17th season, has enjoyed a remarkable Hall of Fame career. He notched six Pro Bowl selections and one first-team All-Pro honor. With an impressive career mark of 110.5 sacks, he has proven time and again his ability to destroy the plans of opposing offenses. Impacting his new team in Miami in unexpected ways. This season, he made his mark on his new team through surprising actions off the field. A Miami-Dade police officer put him in handcuffs right outside Hard Rock Stadium. The confrontation was part of Campbell’s effort to help diffuse a situation between police and his then-teammate Tyreek Hill. Fortunately for him, he survived the encounter without any citations.

On the field, Campbell helped put the Ravens’ skills on full display, earning a gritty and serious win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He literally made a tackle for a loss on the very first play from scrimmage! He had the best overall performance on the field, on either team. He placed third on the team in sacks (5) and ranked second with 12 tackles for loss. On the ground, Campbell ruled all defensive linemen with a 46% run stop win rate. This accomplishment obviously highlights his impact as a premier run-stuffer.

Campbell’s addition to the Dolphins’ roster will make an already impressive defensive line one of the best units in the league. With his extensive experience and leadership qualities, he is poised to provide a veteran presence that could benefit younger players on the team. His long track record of excellence is evidence enough that he can deliver when it counts. That off-the-ball instinct will be key as the Dolphins look to improve their defense this season.
