Dynamic Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark has only recently wrapped up her first season in the WNBA. Today, she’s eager to get back out on the golf course again! Clark, the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year, will make her pro-am debut at the star-studded event. Cheer her on during The Annika tournament on November 12 at Pelican Golf Club! This new event presents an exciting opportunity for the Gamecock superstar to entertain fans in a different and unique setting.
Clark’s breakout year brought unprecedented enthusiasm, energy and attention to the court. Sadly, her sophomore WNBA campaign was marred by the injury bug. She was unable to get any continuity and she played a paltry 13 games. A groin injury on September 4 forced her to miss the remainder of the season. In the face of these disappointments, Clark remains hopeful. His focus is now on returning to competitive action, but this time on the golf course.
The Annika has the distinction of being the second-to-last tournament on the LPGA schedule. It’s too alluring attention grabbing to golf enthusiasts and fans at large. Clark has a corporate partnership with Gainbridge Insurance, the main sponsor of the event, further solidifying her involvement in this prestigious tournament.
“I had an amazing time at The Annika last November and participating in the pro-am alongside Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam, two of the best in the game,” said Clark. Her past experience at the event made an indelible mark, and she cannot wait to go back and compete.
Fans of Clark’s competitive spirit can look forward to watching her take that drive to the golf course. Just the other day, she came within a few inches of an ace in practice, tapping in for a tap-in birdie instead. That realization punctuated her focus and the energy she exhibited during her lead-up to the pro-am.
The pro-am at The Annika promises to be an engaging experience, open to the public and allowing fans to witness Clark’s talents beyond basketball. She is making a comeback to athletics after a difficult year. Her inclusion in this competition only serves as another example of her athletic prowess and eclectic spirit.
