Bryce Young Shines in Season Finale as Frank Reich Expresses Support

Bryce Young, the former Alabama star and first overall pick in the NFL draft, showcased his potential during the Carolina Panthers’ season-ending 44-38 overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons. In that game, Young threw for five touchdowns. He completed three touchdown passes and ran for two others, instilling hope across the organization that he had finally found his way after a frustrating season.

Young struggled at the helm of a coaching staff led by Frank Reich during the 2023 season. That difficult ordeal led to a disastrous debut for the rookie signal-caller. After what can only be described as a disappointing start to the 2024 season, new head coach Dave Canales made a move. Just two games in, he pulled the plug on Young. But then by late October 2024, Young reestablished himself as the deep-ball slinging starter at Purdue once again.

Young did his damage but not until his last three starts of the season. He had a 65% completion percentage for 612 yards, seven TDs and no picks. His jaw-dropping show, as expected, left no doubt that he is the Panthers’ unequivocal QB1. Now, entering his third NFL season, he does so brimming with confidence.

Reich had previously urged Young’s election in an interview, speaking fondly of the struggles they endured together.

“It was terrible for him; it was terrible for all of us who were a part of it.” – Frank Reich

Even through the hurdles, Reich is hopeful for Young’s future. And he really wants that first overall draft pick starting from day one.

“To me that is a universal football principle. You’re drafted No. 1, you’re starting Week 1.” – Frank Reich

This philosophy introduced the subtext of Reich’s belief in Young as the quarterback with the highest ceiling. Following Reich’s dismissal by Panthers owner David Tepper just 11 games into his first season, the organization now looks forward to seeing how Young develops under Canales’ leadership.

As the Panthers prepare for the upcoming NFL season, their focus will be on harnessing Young’s skills and potential to lead the team effectively. The recent turnaround in his performance has injected fresh hope into a franchise eager for success, making it clear that Bryce Young’s journey is far from over.
