Brook Lopez Returns to Southern California with LA Clippers

Brook Lopez, the 37-year-old lockdown defender and offensive force of nature, is off the board, having signed a two-year contract to stay with Milwaukee. The deal is worth a whopping almost $18 million! We’re so glad that he’s been able to share this momentous career chapter with us. Now, he’s coming back to his Southern California roots after growing up in North Hollywood. Lopez has an equally stellar 17-year career. Now, he’s hungry to do his part to get the Clippers — a team he feels confident in competing for a title — where he’s never been, to that title.

Originally from Chile, born in 1988, Lopez has become one of the most intimidating figures in professional tennis. He towered over everyone at the imposing height of 7 feet. Over seven seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, he averaged 13 points and 2.1 blocks per game. He played a major role in leading the Bucks to their first championship since 1971. This incredible accomplishment cemented his image even more as one of the league’s biggest stars. In his career thus far, he has averaged 15.9 points per game. This statistic goes to show just how consistent he is and how well he plays under pressure.

In fact, Lopez quite possibly had the best overall season of his career with the Bucks. If so, his dramatic departure to the Clippers could significantly alter his playing style moving forward. This is notable for a guy who has started nearly his entire career. Next, we’ll have a better idea of how he’ll fit into the Clippers’ lineup. Lopez is hopeful about the team’s chances for next season though, telling us he believes they’ve turned a corner this year.

Speaking at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Lopez reflected on coming to the Clippers. He talked enthusiastically about coming back to his hometown team and was well aware of how deep and talented the new-look roster was.

As he starts this new chapter of life with the Clippers, he puts to rest that it was all about the money. He’s intent on looking ahead to the opportunity before him.
