Broncos Linebacker Dre Greenlaw Placed on Injured Reserve Due to Thigh Injury

It was Saturday, September 20, 2025 when the Denver Broncos dropped quite an announcement. They’ve signed linebacker Dre Greenlaw to the injured reserve due to a thigh injury. The announcement came at 7:31 PM, marking a significant setback for both Greenlaw and the team, as he had been one of their key acquisitions during the offseason.

In March, Greenlaw had signed a three-year, $31.5 million deal with the Broncos. This transaction marked the second-largest dollar commitment the team has ever given to a non-org free agent this season. Despite these lofty expectations, Greenlaw has not made his real season debut in any game thus far this season.

Greenlaw sat out the entire preseason and was originally thought to have escaped missing any regular-season contests. Unfortunately, as a result of complications from a thigh injury he suffered in training camp, he has been unable to play. Head coach Sean Payton described the injury as “unique.” He emphasized its complexity and the hurdles it posed to Greenlaw’s recovery.

The linebacker already had to overcome some obstacles as he’d already missed the offseason program with the exact same thigh problem. This ongoing injury has now resulted in Greenlaw’s absence from both games played this season, raising concerns about his long-term health and availability for the team.

Due to his placement on IR, Greenlaw will miss a minimum of four more games. This move has been made by the Broncos as the team struggles during what has been a historically bad season so far. The team will have to adjust its defensive strategies in his absence, as Greenlaw was expected to play a pivotal role in their lineup.
