Bridgeman Leads at Valspar as Hovland Seeks Swing Revival

Viktor Hovland is trying to find his swing again. As he sits in contention at this week’s Valspar Championship, he’s committed to making it work despite the odds. The 30-year-old Norwegian golfer, who won the FedEx Cup two years ago, was ranked No. 8 in the world at the end of last year. This season, however, he’s focusing on the big picture, getting better, not just hunting birdies. To compound the madness, Jacob Bridgeman is in first place after two rounds at 6-under 136, one shot ahead of the field.

Neal Shipley played a crucial role in helping Scott and 12 other players make the cut, adding another layer of excitement to the championship. At the same time, Hovland is looking to bounce back from his poor start of 80 at the Players Championship. He talks about the significance of striking great shots at all, particularly with the demanding tests presented at the Valspar Championship.

"I still don't exactly know where the ball's going to start and curve and all that stuff," said Viktor Hovland.

And though he struggled, Hovland was still hopeful for his progress. He booked another return trip, this one for a swing technique tune-up with Grant Waite. This practice reinforces Rodriguez’s drive to develop his skills, while recognizing that even at the highest level of baseball, change takes time.

"Still doesn't feel quite that great, but at least it's improvement," Hovland remarked.

In many ways, the most important player in the entire tournament. He’s now officially made the cut the last two weeks in a row! Last week’s return to action was his first in nearly two months after suffering a small tear in his right oblique/rib area. As to his actual performance, it has been consistently strong. He must par the 18th hole to remain at 1 over and earn a place in the final group on Saturday.

Shane Lowry leaves the strongest impression behind with his cool and consistent play. He would go on with bravado to say he never missed a shot during his rounds. This incredible feat of performance speaks to the competitiveness of the Valspar Championship, aptly demonstrating the precision and strategy that this game requires.

Even with all of these good things surrounding him, Hovland’s priority is clear. Continue to hone his craft. The primary focuses of his daily work are swing path and explosion/intention. He thinks the dedication to their craft will result in more professional and reliable performances.

"But if you're hitting solid shots, that's a good start, especially out here when the wind is starting to blow," Hovland added.
