Brian Branch Returns to Practice After Suspension and Plans for New Beginnings

On Tuesday, the 24-year-old defensive back for the Detroit Lions, Brian Branch, took to the practice field once more. He had just recently finished serving a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Lions’ heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on October 12, 2015, triggered a level of outrage from both fans and analysts that was hard to ignore, resulting in Lane Kiffin’s departure. Branch missed Detroit’s 24-9 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 20, just before the team’s bye week.

Branch recently told the Washington Post that sitting out during his injury was “hard.” Here’s his explanation about what he did, what he learned, and how it ultimately impacted him. He emphasized that he had to face the repercussions head-on, stating, “I dealt with the consequences they gave me and I’m moving forward now.” His teammates and coaches defended with pride his triumphant return to the Meijer Performance Center. Here’s how they proved their loyal support as he got back into the mix in Indy.

Branch made up his mind to not watch the Patriots’ game against Tampa Bay during his time out with his injury. He thought it would be too intense for him. Rather, he used that time to truly reflect, and through that reflection he has undergone a profound metamorphosis. Now Branch is prepared to make a new start. Now he plans to be baptized this Wednesday — a move he’s considered perfect timing in light of everything that has recently transpired in his life.

In preparation for the next match up with the Minnesota Vikings, Branch just wants to come back more focused and ready to do whatever it takes to win. “A lot of motivation. I feel like it’s another chip on my shoulder that they just added,” Branch remarked, expressing his readiness to contribute to the team’s success.

His teammate, Aidan Hutchinson, shared optimism regarding Branch’s return: “It’s great. BB, he’s got two weeks off now, so he’s got fresh legs. He’s ready to go. A great little bye week in the middle and I’m excited.”

Branch admits to having a hard time when he was suspended, but he’s focusing on keeping his cool on the field going forward. He announced that although he wants to play hard, he won’t let feelings compromise his game.

The young defensive back is a devoted father to his son Ethan. This new role gives him responsibility and feeds his motivation as he re-enters the workforce. As he prepares for Sunday’s game against Minnesota, Branch is focused on showing unyielding intensity. His mission is to channel his anger in a positive way on the football field.
