Lucas Paqueta, the Brazilian international midfielder, finds himself at the center of a significant legal battle as the Football Association (FA) charges him with spot-fixing offences in four Premier League matches. These matches include fixtures against Leicester City in November 2022, Aston Villa in March 2023, Leeds United in May 2023, and Bournemouth in August. Paqueta, who denies any wrongdoing, now faces the possibility of a lifetime ban sought by the FA.
The FA's charges date back to May 2024, accusing Paqueta of breaching betting rules and failing to comply with FA Rule F2, which requires the provision of information and documents. Despite these allegations, Paqueta has fully cooperated with the nine-month investigation, providing all the information he can to clear his name.
"I deny the charges in their entirety and will fight with every breath to clear my name." – Lucas Paqueta
The hearing, set to begin this month, is anticipated to be one of the longest in the FA's history, lasting approximately three weeks. Kaveh Solhekol, a notable journalist, noted the extended duration of this legal proceeding.
