Brandon Miller Faces Injury Setback in Game Against 76ers

Brandon Miller is a forward for the Charlotte Hornets, having been the second overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Unfortunately, that progress came to a sudden halt as he suffered a fall vs. the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. Miller opened his NBA campaign on a scoring binge, notching a quarter century of points and supplementing that with seven dimes in the Hornets’ opening win against the Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately, he left the game due to tightness in his left shoulder.

The injury happened in the first quarter, just seconds after Joel Embiid hit the jump shot seen above. Miller looked like he was in a lot of pain, clutching at his left arm while walking off the court. When a medical timeout was called as he left, fears grew about the severity of his condition. He ended the contest with a mere four points and one assist in nine minutes of action. Though his impact was immediate and undeniable, he was unfortunately ruled out for the remainder of the game.

This injury is especially dangerous considering Miller’s past. Last year he struggled with multiple ailments and only played in 27 contests. In January, he underwent surgery to repair a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist. This most recent injury has only compounded concerns about his durability thus far in his young NFL career.

Miller’s showing against the 76ers was expected as he sought to carry over his impressive opening night. His previous game showcased his potential and skill set, highlighting why he was selected just behind Victor Wembanyama, who currently plays for the San Antonio Spurs. Fans and analysts alike were excited to see how Miller would play a big role for the Hornets this season.

The Hornets will now turn their attention to determining the severity of Miller’s shoulder injury. The team remains hopeful that it’s not a fatal problem. At least they’re optimistic he’ll be back in action very soon. The first signs point to an area where we should tread carefully when it comes to raising expectations in his recovery.
