Bradford Climbs to Promotion Places with Victory Over Morecambe

Bradford City secured a vital victory over Morecambe on Saturday, propelling themselves into the League Two automatic promotion places for the first time this season. The match, held at Valley Parade, saw Bradford triumph 1-0 against the league's bottom club, marking their sixth consecutive home win. Calum Kavanagh's decisive goal in the second half ensured Graham Alexander's side celebrated their sixth win in seven league games.

The game began with Bradford on the front foot, as Richie Smallwood and Brad Halliday tested Morecambe's keeper, Harry Burgoyne, within the opening minutes. Despite this early pressure, it was not until the half-hour mark that Bradford found their breakthrough. Antoni Sarcevic, making his 500th career appearance, saw his shot from outside the box blocked but provided an assist that would lead to the game's only goal.

Kavanagh capitalized on the opportunity, scoring from 10 yards out to give Bradford the lead. Morecambe struggled to make an impact during the first half, but Gwion Edwards managed a shot over the bar after Tommy Leigh was dispossessed.

After the break, Bradford continued their offensive momentum. Leigh and Bobby Pointon had early chances to extend the lead, while Burgoyne made another crucial save from Smallwood. Morecambe's best chance came when Hallam Hope met Harvey Macadam's cross with a formidable header, only for Bradford's Sam Walker to deny them with an impressive save.

Despite Morecambe's late attempts to equalize, Bradford's defense held firm. The victory not only boosted Bradford into the promotion places but also underscored their dominance at Valley Parade this season.
