Boogie Fland, a one-time Arkansas guard, today made his departure from the NBA draft official. He surprised many at the NBA draft combine and proved he could play with the best of them. Then he made the difficult decision to cancel the event for the year. Mike Miller, Fland’s agent, reported the development. Now, Fland is aggressively scouring the market in the transfer portal.
Ranked 42nd in ESPN’s NBA draft rankings and projected as a second-round pick in the latest mock draft, Fland’s decision comes as a surprise to many. The rainbow-haired 6-foot-2 guard made headlines when he announced his intention to transfer in late April. He’s now considered one of the best available prospects in that space. His performance over the course of the season raised his stock. He enjoyed an excellent start, averaging 15.1 points, 5.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds through the first 18 games in the starting role. All of this made Fland a fantastic shooter, as he shot 36.5% on three-point attempts during that time frame.
Fland’s season suffered a major blow when he injured his shooting hand. It all came crashing down during a home game against Florida on January 11. While this chair throw incident would prove to be a temporary hiccup, his prior showings had already secured his reputation as a premier player. As a consensus five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American in the 2024 class, Fland came into college basketball with a lot of expectations on him.
His withdrawal from the draft provides him an opportunity to reassess his options. Today, he’s free to pursue a program that actually matches his hopes and career goals. With the transfer portal still buzzing, plenty of teams will certainly be interested in bringing in a player of Fland’s ability.
