Bob Myers Transitions from ESPN to Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment

Bob Myers, ESPN’s unique head of basketball operations, has departed. He’s now making that journey to Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) as a full-time member of the dream team. As such, this move marks an enormous shift in Myers’ career. He was an agent for more than 14 years before taking on a front office position with the Warriors in 2011. He took the helm of Golden State’s front office for 12 years, compiling championship-caliber rosters and winning NBA Executive of the Year twice.

Myers persevered against the odds within the Warriors’ hierarchy to prove he belonged. He finally guided the franchise to NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. His strategic vision and ability to assemble talent paved the way for one of the most successful runs in NBA history. Following his departure from the Warriors, Myers began a new chapter as a basketball analyst for ESPN, where he worked on pre- and post-game shows throughout 2023.

Myers will take on his new role at HBSE positively. In that role, he’ll work closely with ownership and senior leadership teams across the company. For him, identification and implementation peer deep into the potential to multisport diversification and inclusion. Showcasing the team behind the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils, this portfolio has been an outlier. As for day-to-day operations, Myers will work from his California home base while regularly visiting HBSE properties and events.

In a joint statement, minority owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer said they are excited to have Myers join the organization.

“Our goal has been to hire, grow, and retain the best and brightest executives in the world and we are a stronger, more dynamic organization with the addition of Bob Myers.”

Myers the man echoed Myers the brand in explaining his choice to come to HBSE, noting that he has long respected Harris and Blitzer.

“His experience as an architect of championship teams will complement our existing leadership structure, while also allowing HBSE to maximize opportunities across our portfolio. We’re excited to have Bob continue his storied career here at HBSE.”

Myers will serve as a senior advisor to Josh Harris in 2024. In that role, he’ll be a key figure in shaping the Washington Commanders’ organizational infrastructure. This new role will allow him to draw upon his significant experience in team management to help guide and mold the future of the franchise.

“I have been fortunate to know Josh and David for a long time, and I’ve always greatly admired them and respected how they’ve built such an impressive global sports portfolio.”

As part of his responsibilities, Myers will also serve as an advisor to Josh Harris on the organizational infrastructure of the Washington Commanders in 2024. This role will leverage his extensive experience in sports management to assist in shaping the future of the franchise.

Myers expressed his eagerness for the challenges ahead at HBSE.

“By leveraging HBSE’s global presence in sports, we can create competitive advantages for our athletes and teams that enhance our ability to win. This is the type of challenge and opportunity I was looking for, and I’m grateful to Josh and David for the chance to be a part of HBSE.”
