The Buffalo Bills are now currently dealing with catastrophic injury. They’re preparing for their “Monday Night Football” debut as they host the Atlanta Falcons. Injury Report Safety Damar Hamlin and defensive lineman T.J. Sanders have both been placed on IR. With this blow, the team faces a tough road as they prepare for next week’s matchup.
Damar Hamlin suffered a pectoral injury in Thursday’s practice, forcing the team to place him on IR. Hamlin was the team’s third safety and played a key role on special teams. Unfortunately, that will not be the case any longer as he will be out indefinitely. His loss is a huge blow to the Bills’ secondary, especially with their big game against the Dolphins on Sunday.
Even T.J. Sanders, who emerged as a surprise late-season star in 2020, is dealing with tough luck from a knee injury that’s already sidelined him. He missed last week’s loss to the New England Patriots due to that injury. Now, he joins Hamlin on IR. Sanders is an important piece to the defensive line rotation. Without him, the Bills will have less flexibility on defense.
Beyond these injuries, the Bills are certainly facing questions about other important players. Rookie safety Jordan Hancock can step into the limelight as a potential replacement. On top of that, Jordan Poyer, recently signed to the practice squad, could receive the call-up as well.
Dalton Kincaid just had the first of his career a week ago against the Patriots. Right now, he’s working through an oblique injury and is questionable to play Monday night. Curtis Samuel is questionable, dealing with ailments to his neck and ribs.
Head Coach Sean McDermott said he wasn’t sure if Kincaid or Samuel would be able to play Sunday.
“Don’t know on either of ’em really.” – Sean McDermott
Despite the challenges, McDermott conveyed a slightly optimistic outlook regarding Sanders’ situation:
“Feel a little bit better about T.J. Damar is up in the air at this point.” – Sean McDermott
Whether they’re able to or not will be the test as the Bills face a challenging landscape coming into their most important matchup this year against the Falcons. With injuries piling up, the coaching staff will have to rely on depth players to step up and fill critical roles on both offense and defense.
