Bills Defense Shines in Dominant Win Over Jets

And just like that, the Buffalo Bills had started their season with a banner 2-0 record. They backed up their defensive swagger with a complete thrashing of the New York Jets. The Bills defense took a victory lap celebrating their Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Today, they’re intent on making amends and refining their attention on the basics of the game. Their efforts paid off as they crushed the Jets, completing a shocking comeback from their last showing.

Bills defense stepped up with multiple starters out. Even with them having to play without defensive tackle Ed Oliver (injury) and nickel corner Taron Johnson (injury), they still made a lasting impact. Defensive end Joey Bosa emerged as a standout in just his second game with the team, highlighting the depth and resilience of the unit.

Tredavious White made his much-anticipated return, starting for the first time since tearing his Achilles tendon in October 2023. After missing the previous three contests with a groin injury, White’s return proved essential as he helped propel the team to victory. Together with Bosa’s disruptive and splashy style of play, when paired with his practice performances, Bosa’s practice performance invigorated the defense. Collectively, they induced four three-and-outs and held the Jets to minus yardage on three possessions.

The Bills wasted little time imposing their will on the contest. They held every Jets possession to under 34 yards—stopping the Jets on offense before the end of the fourth quarter entirely. This phenomenal performance kept the team’s incredible active streak of 24 consecutive games without losing the turnover margin intact. That includes playoff games and it sets the longest such streak in NFL history.

Joey Bosa summed up the team’s mindset coming into this game and why they felt so confident in their game plan.

“It was a great week to prepare for a similar type of player in Fields.” – Joey Bosa

Bosa’s performance was key to that turnaround, finishing with two forced fumbles and six QB pressures, including one sack. The new-look defensive line harassed Jets quarterback Zach Wilson from the opening snap. This strategy effectively erased his biggest threats and allowed the Bills to dictate the flow of the game.

Impressed with execution by his players, that’s why Head Coach Sean McDermott made the announcement. He praised the game plan put together by defensive coordinator Bobby Babich.

“Better understanding of the plan, coaches, led by Bobby Babich, did a great job putting a good plan together, players executed.” – Sean McDermott

There was a price to the defense’s stellar performance, though. Linebacker Matt Milano did not return after halftime with an arm injury. As it stands, this became a point of contention for the coaching staff since they’re looking ahead to potential rematches.

Under center Josh Allen was the first to admit that this must be the mindset going forward as the team prepares for a short week ahead.

“A short week, we’ve got to wash this one.” – Josh Allen

Even as they prepare for their next opponent, the Bills’ defensive squad is still excited about being able to pick up where they left off and furthering their success. Tredavious White was thrilled to be back playing and helping the team defend their 2022 status.

“It was my first play being made back in Bills blue, so it’s something to f
