Free Agent Elijah Moore Signs One-Year Deal With Buffalo Bills This announcement comes just a day after Moore toured the team’s headquarters on Monday. Not only does this make the Bills’ receiving corps deeper with players such as Joshua Palmer and Laviska Shenault Jr. Moore’s versatility to play inside and outside will certainly add depth and flexibility to the offense.
Moore, a 25-year-old former sprint star turned football athlete, was just tendered as an unrestricted free agent by the Cleveland Browns. The tender is worth $3.428 million. He signed with the Browns in March 2023. This decision came on the heels of a trade with the New York Jets that had already sent a second-rounder their way. In his two seasons with Cleveland, Moore totaled 120 receptions for 1,178 yards. Last year he set a career high with 61 grabs for 538 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The Jets traded up to acquire him as the second player taken in the 2021 NFL Draft. Over four seasons in the league, he’s proven it to be no fluke. Over that span, Moore has tallied a ridiculous 200 catches. He accumulated 2,162 yards and nine TDs showing his versatility and dependability as a pass catcher.
The Bills’ choice to go after Moore couldn’t have happened at a better time. The Browns would have retained exclusive negotiating rights beyond that date. This would have occurred had he not signed with another team by July 22. This signing would have an effect on the compensatory pick formula for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Brandon Beane, General Manager of the Bills, explained the team’s approach to acquiring Moore in a recent press conference.
“If we took a guy in the first or second round, he’s probably not too interested. But we didn’t, and so, you know, we picked up those conversations over the weekend.” – Brandon Beane
Moore’s recruitment is a great sign of how serious the Bills are about making their roster even tougher as they look towards the 2023 NFL season. His experience, size and speed should help the Wolfpack’s offensive scheme tremendously both on the ground and through the air.
