The Atlanta Falcons were understandably excited after their huge 24-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. Running back Bijan Robinson had a historic performance midway through the season that propelled them to victory. Robinson, who has quickly established himself as a key player for the Falcons, showcased his skills with an impressive 238 yards from scrimmage—170 rushing and 68 receiving—making him instrumental in the team’s triumph.
Robinson’s performance produced a stunning record-breaking feat in the history of National Football League. He’s become just the second player in NFL history to have 450+ rushing yards and 300+ receiving yards through the first five games of a season. He became the only other player to do so besides Thurman Thomas in 1991. On the ground and in the air, he makes powerful contributions. This has turned him into a key weapon in the Falcons’ lethal offensive scheme.
A Historic First Half
Bijan Robinson might have made one of the biggest first-half impacts. He finished with 256 rushing yards, 138 of which came by halftime. This remarkable accomplishment established a new league record for the most rushing yards in the first half by any player this year. His explosive 81-yard touchdown run energized the Falcons and highlighted his speed and agility, making him a nightmare for defenders.
Through that same half, Robinson and fellow WR Drake London controlled the pace. Together they made up an astonishing 89% of the yardage gained by the Falcons on offense. This dynamic duo has quickly become one of the league’s most lethal partnerships. They come into this game carrying an astounding 57% of their team’s total scrimmage yardage. Their synergy would go on to be crucial for the Falcons’ offensive success.
“I wish I had an answer, because I would’ve said it today. But no one knows. We just got to just keep playing hard and keep being us.” – Dion Dawkins
Setting Records
With another incredible performance against the Bills, Robinson continued to show why he was locked up as a franchise cornerstone. He’s gained more yards from scrimmage through five games than any other player in Falcons history. This landmark accomplishment says practically everything you need to know about his potential and foreshadows a bright future for the youthful running back.
Robinson continued his dominant performance on the ground, accumulating 42 yards on only six rushes. His value went far beyond just his rushing and receiving yards. His multifaceted skill set allows him to be utilized in various offensive schemes, making him a valuable asset for head coach Arthur Smith.
Glad to see Robinson and London break the record! They became the only Falcons teammates to each gain over 100 yards in the first half on multiple occasions since the NFL merger in 1970. Their combined efforts lifted their own team’s performance and turned heads all around the league.
Looking Ahead
The Falcons’ upset win against the favored Bills bolsters the Falcons postseason hopes with an important win. It likely serves to underscore their development into serious contenders this season. Robinson’s strength on offense has allowed them to go toe-to-toe against some of the most intimidating competition.
Consistency certainly will be the reoccurring theme moving forward, both for Robinson and this Rams team. The Falcons will now try to set themselves up to play to their strengths and take this momentum into the next few games.
