Bengals Wide Receiver Tee Higgins Out Against Ravens Due to Concussion Protocol

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins has been added to the concussion protocol. As a consequence, he will sit out this week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. This decision was made after Higgins fell victim to a string of scary injuries. He says the most frightening was a heavy hit he suffered in the home game against the Buffalo Bills Dec. 7.

Higgins first made a splash in the devastating loss to the Bills. He even got in on the scoring too, catching 92 yards worth of passes and totaling two touchdowns. He absorbed a hard hit during an attempt to catch a pass and began experiencing concussion-like symptoms. So the medical team put him right back into the protocol on Monday morning. Yet Higgins suffered another defeat just a few weeks back. He had a tough time with injuries ever since November 23, when he suffered a hip injury during a contest against the New England Patriots.

Throughout the week leading up to the Ravens game, Higgins was limited during practice for the first two days, raising concerns about his availability. On Friday morning, he was conspicuously absent during the portion of practice open to media. This absence was a clear sign that he would not be fit to compete.

In his place, nose guard Mitch Tinsley will likely lose some playing time. Tinsley expressed enthusiasm about stepping up in Higgins’ stead:

“For sure I would love to get more opportunities against them.” – Mitch Tinsley

Higgins sat out the Bengals’ first game with the Ravens on Thanksgiving Day. Cincinnati controlled that game, winning 32-14. His presence is missed on the field, especially as he ranks behind All-Pro Ja’Marr Chase and veteran Andrei Iosivas in the team’s wide receiver lineup.

Higgins is still all in for his squad. He has stated previously:

“I’m a team-first guy, you know what I mean.” – Tee Higgins

The Bengals are preparing to take on their AFC North divisional foes. They’ll require some adjustment to their offensive game plan, though, with Higgins out for the foreseeable future. Reimagine the team’s desire to retain their competitive advantage as they balance these competing demands.
