Bengals QB Burrow Ruled Out for Clash Against Patriots

Join the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday as they fight for the goal line against the New England Patriots. Unfortunately they’ll have to do so without their starting quarterback, Joe Burrow, who is currently sidelined with a turf toe injury. Since the second week of the season, Burrow has been out of action. Fans have plenty to root for with his return after he was originally deemed as questionable for Sunday’s game.

In the weeks leading up to that match, Burrow practiced in every capacity on Wednesday and Thursday. He got some Friday and was mostly ineffective, making it hard to draw conclusions as to his preparedness. Bengals’ head coach Zac Taylor’s aggressive decision crystallized the moment. Mickey coordinated the recovery approach with Burrow’s medical and training staff and decided to keep Burrow on injured reserve for the long haul.

Taylor said it was crucial to make decisions with Burrow’s health and the Bengals’ long-term interest in mind.

“I have to take into account what’s best for him,” – Taylor

Joe Flacco will make his sixth straight start for the Bengals this week. Flacco’s veteran presence arrives at an important time for the team, which has been plagued by inconsistency this year. Burrow’s aggressive attempts to return from prior injuries demonstrate his commitment to the game of football. He had already been playing through a lingering calf injury he first suffered early in the season before he further aggravated it.

Burrow’s contributions extend beyond the field. He provides daily coverage of the Bengals for ESPN.com and frequently appears on SportsCenter, ESPN’s NFL shows, and ESPN Radio programs. A native of Grapevine, Texas, she originally joined ESPN in July 2019. She got her start in the field after receiving a journalism bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. Before joining ESPN’s staff, he was a college sports writer for The Dallas Morning News.

With Burrow still on the road to recovery, Taylor is intent on ensuring he makes all the right moves for Burrow’s long-term welfare.

“He’s coming back off an injury. He’s been out for a long time. I know he’s of the right mindset and has done everything he can physically. And then I have to take into account what’s the best thing for him, what’s the best thing for the team and make the soundest decision.” – Taylor
