Jude Bellingham, the talented midfielder for Real Madrid, has been left out of the latest England squad for the upcoming international matches. As Bellingham is still recovering from emergency shoulder surgery, this decision is not surprising. He has been a bench player for his club, and his lack of consistent minutes has raised some red flags. As a result, many are skeptical of his fitness and more importantly his readiness to impact the national team.
Bellingham’s return to action has been cautious. There hasn’t been much production since his shoulder surgery, only three appearances off the bench for Real Madrid. His first start of the season occurred during a challenging 5-2 defeat against rivals Atletico Madrid, illustrating the uphill battle he faces as he works to regain full match fitness. Even though he’s only played in one game as a starter, he hasn’t been able to finish a full game since his return.
Tuchel’s Support for Bellingham
Real Madrid coach Thomas Tuchel made a passionate defense of Bellingham, saying he has all the characteristics of a top player and is crucial to his team. Tuchel stated, “Do I believe we’re a stronger team with Jude? Yes. Is he one of the best players in the world in midfield? Yes.” His admiration for Bellingham is evident, and he highlighted the midfielder’s consistent presence in discussions about England’s squad selection.
Tuchel underscored that Bellingham deserves to be involved with the national team, saying, “For this camp, we decided to invite the same team. That applies to Jude; he deserves to always be in camp.” The coach’s opinion is that the teenage skills of Bellingham lifts him to be one of England’s best. He puts Bellingham up there with Cole Palmer and the best No 10 in the country, Phil Foden.
Sure Tuchel is of Bellingham, he was forced to drop him for the October internationals. He explained that maintaining consistency within the squad is crucial at this time, mentioning, “Why not pick the same players and squad if they are available? They have to prove the point again.” This would suggest that for all Tuchel’s talk about depth and versatility, he prefers stability and performance over potential selections based largely on past accolades.
Questions About National Team Importance
Bellingham’s exclusion has ignited some serious debate about his presence in the Three Lions squad going forward. Tuchel was clearly sensitive to the fact that some players have earned the right to be on the squad. That said, he added, only performance would dictate acceptance. Is there an avenue back into the side based on form? 100 per cent, for sure. But right now we believe this is the best and least complicated route to go,” he said.
The coach’s comments suggest that while Bellingham’s past achievements—including being named England’s player of the year—are significant, current form and fitness take precedence. His limited appearances following surgery have raised concerns about his ability to contribute effectively in international fixtures.
Still, even with that setback, it’s clear that Tuchel’s excitement about Bellingham is still bubbling over. He affirmed that “we reached a new level and new standards in the last camp,” indicating that while Bellingham is currently absent, there is still an expectation for his future involvement based on his talent and potential impact on the team.
