The Bears cricket team is gearing up for an inspiring trip to Lahore, Pakistan, from February 12-24. This groundbreaking tour includes seasoned players Ethan Bamber and Jake Lintott, along with ten promising teenagers from the county's academy and emerging player programme. Accompanying them are four coaches led by high-performance manager Paul Greetham. The tour aims to offer invaluable learning experiences and foster team bonding as they prepare for the upcoming County Championship campaign starting April 4 at Edgbaston against Sussex.
The team will engage in rigorous training camps at two prestigious locations: Aitchison College, the alma mater of Pakistan cricket legend Imran Khan, and the Aleem Dar Academy, named after the renowned Pakistani umpire. These venues are recognized for their top-notch facilities, offering the Bears an exceptional opportunity to refine their skills. Additionally, the itinerary includes the England v Australia ICC Champions Trophy game, further enriching the players' exposure to high-level cricket.
Ethan Bamber expressed his excitement about the trip, noting the unique chance it presents for team building and skill development.
"We're very privileged to be able to do it," said Ethan Bamber.
He also emphasized the importance of integrating with younger teammates and preparing for the pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi.
"It will be nice to build some relations with the younger ones, bowl outside and get some good work done ahead of the pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi," he added.
For Jake Lintott, who has not played much cricket this winter, the tour offers a vital opportunity to regain form and fitness. His enthusiasm reflects his appreciation for subcontinental cricket culture.
"Not just Pakistan but India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh too, where I have played. They love their sport, and their cricket in particular," said Jake Lintott.
The trip also includes four competitive matches against teams likely featuring Pakistan Under-19s players and seasoned first-class cricketers. This setup promises challenging encounters that will test the skills of the Bears' squad and provide the young players with an opportunity to learn from experienced counterparts.
Head coach Mark Robinson aims to use this tour to cultivate a robust team culture and enhance camaraderie within the dressing room. The integration of experienced players like Bamber and Lintott with emerging talents is expected to serve as a catalyst for fostering a cohesive unit that can perform under pressure.
"And we're very unlucky they had a place for a couple of older ones," Ethan Bamber commented on the inclusion of senior players in this youth-centric trip.
