Bears Hopeful for Odunze’s Return After Injury Setback

Also, the Chicago Bears are reportedly encouraged by wide receiver Odunze’s chances of returning this Sunday. He was even on the injury report with a foot issue, listed as questionable. The rookie quarterback has been unavailable due to an injury since last week’s game. In that game, the Bears lost to the Green Bay Packers 28-21. This injury also was the first game Odunze has missed as a professional.

Since the start of October, Odunze has been battling chronic plantar fasciitis and heel pain. This was the first time he registered on Chicago’s injury report as he continues to deal with a heel injury. Signs pointed towards him being back to full health this week since he was a fixture in limited practices all week long. According to one personnel source, the coaching staff members are hopeful. They’re optimistic he can play this weekend.

Odunze has been one of the biggest storylines in the Bears’ offense this season. He sits atop the team leaderboard in some of the most important key statistical categories. He’s currently leading the league with 44 receptions, 661 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. In fact, last week the Bears played the Packers without their top pass-catcher, and that lack of production was impossible to miss. They seriously struggled to build any offensive rhythm.

The handling of Odunze’s injury late in the play-to-play development process has led many to question his long-term health and effectiveness. His resolve to get back in the game seems unyielding. The organization is closely monitoring his recovery, weighing the risks of reinjury against the benefits of having him back in action.
