Bears Cornerback Kyler Gordon Placed on Injured Reserve Following Groin Injury

Chicago Bears put CB Kyler Gordon on injured reserve. This shift ensures he’ll miss the remainder of the regular season. Though Williams is still just 25, he suffered a devastating groin injury while warming up on Lambeau Field on December 7. Sadly, that injury soon forced him out of the game altogether right before kickoff.

That’s the first time all season that Gordon will be on IR. All season he’s dealt with various soft tissue injuries, allowing him to appear in just three games. Aside from this most recent injury, he’s missed nearly a season’s worth of playing time already. His calf and groin injuries prevented him from playing leading up to the Bears’ Week 8 loss to Baltimore. He was able to come back for Week 13, where he took 36 snaps in Chicago’s win over Philadelphia.

With a major investment in Gordon, the organization has been alarmed by his injury woes. He lost most of training camp due to a hamstring injury. As a consequence, he missed the team’s first 4 games of the season as well. His continual absence has further hampered any chance for him to build a rapport with the coaching staff and fellow teammates.

In light of Gordon’s injury, Coach Ben Johnson addressed the mental toll that comes with injuries that reoccur.

“I wish I had a better feel for the individual, but with him being out as much as he has, I haven’t really gotten to see him on the field and competing and get to know him like I’d like to at this point yet. I do know that the biggest predictor of a soft tissue injury is having a previous one, and he’s kind of in this rut right now that we’re not able to get out of, and so we’re going to exhaust all of our resources in and outside of the building to make sure we’re addressing it and doing what we can to get him back and healthy again.” – Coach Ben Johnson

For Gordon, the former second-round pick made him the first Poles’ draft pick in 2022 to earn such recognition. In April, he signed a three-year, $40 million contract extension that begins next year. He is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season. He could come back if the Bears reach the playoffs.

The Bears will miss Gordon’s presence while trying to acclimate someone new in their secondary as they gear up for the rest of the season. His absence will undoubtedly affect team dynamics as they aim for a successful conclusion to their season amidst growing injury concerns.
