Barmore Set to Return as Patriots Defensive Tackle Cleared for Football Activity

Christian Barmore, the talented defensive tackle for the New England Patriots, is set to resume football activities after a challenging season. The former University of Alabama 2021 second-round draft pick went through some major hardships last season. He sat out nearly an entire season due to complications from blood clots. Barmore’s recent clearance marks a vital step as he prepares for the upcoming season, emphasizing his commitment to his health and the game.

That was the first diagnosis of blood clots Barmore received, and that was in late July of last year. Due to this, he sat out the first ten games of the season. Upon returning to play in just four games, he suffered from persistent symptoms that made him unable to contribute. Despite the hardships of this shocking journey, he proved to be a fighter and survivor.

“It was one of the hardest times. I felt like I did everything in my power, wanting to come back,” Barmore stated, reflecting on his struggles.

The young athlete’s hard work and dedication paid off. Last offseason, he signed a lucrative four-year contract extension worth $92 million with the Patriots, solidifying his position as a key player on the team. Barmore, despite a career worth of 48 games played, is likely still very raw. During that stretch, he’s posted a remarkable 139 tackles, including 19 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks.

Even with his struggles, Barmore has been a big part of the Patriots’ voluntary offseason program the last six weeks. He said he gets into a bit of one-upsmanship with fellow DT Milton Williams. This speaks to his innate competitiveness and desire to be the best.

With the Cavs scheduled to begin organized team activities next week, Barmore can think of nothing better on the eve of his return. He expects to be smoothed out and primed to roll for the season opener versus the Las Vegas Raiders on September 7th.

I’m never wanting to put myself in that situation again or anyone else in the world to experience that. That stuff was no joke. It was a hard challenge. It’s no joke home— Barmore stated, underlining the gravity of a lot of his recent health issues.

Having now been cleared for football activity, he told reporters that confidence has returned and he can’t wait to help the team win games.

I’m feeling good, higher level of confidence in myself, back to my diaphragm with the breathing. Talking my smack, yeah. All of that. Really blessed,” he concluded.
