Bangladesh beat Pakistan by eight wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in first T20 of the three-match series on Thursday. The home team produced a powerful statement performance with key contributions from the batting order, led most notably by Hridoy and Emon.
As it turned out, the 143 runs Hridoy scored was worth exactly that to Bangladesh’s innings. He finished with 36 runs off 37 balls with two fours and two sixes. His innings of 37 from 38 balls, which took just over 51 minutes, produced a strike rate of 97.30 and was eventually ended when Abbas bowled him. Even with his dismissal, Hridoy’s contribution went a long way to lay a good platform for the team.
Emon cemented Bangladesh’s dominance further with a stellar 56-run performance. He looked menacing with the bat, stamping his authority on the bowlers with a strike rate of 143.59. Emon’s ability to find boundaries allowed him to accumulate runs quickly, contributing significantly to the team’s total.
Ali made an important contribution with the bat in the form of a rapid-fire 15. He limited himself to only 10 balls in his failed stand. In that period, he hit out 4 fours and had a staggering strike rate of 150.00. Ali’s innings only lasted 16 minutes but it was enough time for him to play a telling cameo before his exit.
Batting with a mixture of aggression and caution, the Bangladesh team showed a measured and thoughtful approach in its batting strategy. Their brisk beginning certainly set them up for a comfortable chase against Pakistan.
