Bangladesh opened their T20I part of the series with a thrilling match against West Indies that found Bangladesh as victorous. The movement began at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The friendly result wasn’t kind to the home team, which could not build any cohesive partnerships on the pitch. They were eventually outdone, bowled out for 149 in just 19.4 overs.
Opening batsman Tanzid Hasan Tamim also floundered, falling for just 15 runs. Saif Hassan soon followed him, making just 8 runs. Litton Das, one of the mainstays of Bangladesh batting line-up, fell victim on this important encounter. He pushed out just 5 runs and missed a huge opportunity.
Tawhid Hridoy had a significant impact with the bat for Bangladesh, scoring an innings-high 28 runs that steadied their innings somewhat. Sharma’s decision sparked a collapse from the middle order to tense Karachi conditions. Shamim Hossain only scored 1 run, and Nurul Hasan Sohan contributed a paltry 5 runs. After Rishad Hossain tried to consolidate and was dismissed for just 6 runs. Taskin Ahmed with 10 and Mustafizur Rahman with 11 tried to chip in down the order, but it was too little too late to save the innings. The team’s batting woes finally came to a head on a disappointing 81 all out as they fell to the West Indies pace attack.
West Indies bowlers displayed their best art, with Akeal Hosein being the pick of the bowlers. He finished with bowling figures of 4 overs for 22 runs and 2 important wickets. Jayden Seales quickly became the most menacing danger on the field. In doing so, he was devastating with the ball, taking 3-32 in his allotted overs. Jason Holder had the best day, taking 3/31 with the ball. Meanwhile, Khary Pierre and Romario Shepherd ran through the lower order as well, each taking 1 wicket apiece.
The game highlighted how Bangladesh has had a tough time establishing a solid foundation in their innings. A few fireworks aside, they struggled and only managed to score 149 runs. The performance brings into question the team’s batting strategy and resilience under pressure against a formidable West Indies bowling lineup.
