Desmond Bane’s ejection in the 3rd Qtr of the game vs ATL on Nov 4, 2025. His premature departure followed a flagrant foul he had committed. The incident occurred with 5:24 remaining in the quarter when Bane committed a hard foul on Hawks player Onyeka Okongwu.
On the play that drew Bane the flagrant one foul during the game, it was on the contact made with Okongwu. His actions drew the attention of officials, who slapped him with a technical foul. After the foul, he threw the ball at Okongwu. The incident became so serious, officials had to stop play and look at the play as it unfolded before making the determination to eject.
It’s certainly not an unfair assertion when Bane only scored nine points and fouled out in just 22 minutes of action. He expressed his outrage and disappointment at the officials’ move. Then he asked why he got tossed and contested that. Further, he truly felt that what he had done did not merit the draconian punishment that was being imposed. His frustrations were witnessed by reporters such as ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk, who live-tweeted the drama as it played its way out on the court.
The Orlando Magic fought tooth and nail against the Atlanta Hawks in exhilarating fashion. The bout took a dramatic turn after Bane had been eliminated. His absence was a huge blow to the team’s culture and chemistry. They were unable to figure out how to play the rest of the game without one of their best players.
As the season progresses, the Magic will need to address not only performance on the court but discipline and control among their players. In moments of Bane’s ejection, the momentum can turn and end up impacting the whole game moving forward.
