That fabulous collaboration was tremendous in turning a first-innings deficit of 222 runs to a 61-run lead for Yorkshire. Bairstow, English cricket’s warrior king, as ever, led from the front with swaggering confidence and fearsome intent. He remained calm in the midst of pressure, exposing a great difference to the obstacles he faced on day one.
Bairstow’s captaincy on the second day was nearly flawless, with his strategic decisions contributing to Yorkshire’s resurgence. It was his ability to rally the team together and his ability to keep focus that helped them score on all of their opportunities. Sadly, Bairstow was a victim outside edge. Even with this misstep, his performance made clear that he has the experience and drive to make this a reality.
