Smith has certainly risen to the occasion to assume his absence the leadership void. He is supremely well-suited to this task having served as captain of the last broadside. The decision to appoint Smith as skipper reflects the team’s confidence in his experience and ability to guide the side through this critical series.
The age of most players in the squad has been criticized. We might never know, but Australia’s chief selector, George Bailey, has responded to these worries head-on.
