Athletes Shine as ESPY Nominations Announced Ahead of Awards Ceremony

The 2023 ESPY Awards are just around the corner, and nominees have been announced, showcasing some of the greatest achievements in sports over the past year. The live ceremony is set to begin on July 16 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Each category is a chance to amplify the work being done to make cities more livable for all! Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, left, is one of the leading MVP candidates. He’s joined by WNBA star A’ja Wilson, as both are nominated in major, noteworthy categories.

>Josh Allen has been nominated for Best NFL Player and for Best Athlete in Men’s Sports. This honor cements his standing as the most high-profile winner in this year’s awards. He now shares this nomination with Saquon Barkley, making them the only two NFL players nominated for both categories. This competition recognizes the very best in professional football.”

Outside of personal awards, the Oklahoma City Thunder has received honors in the Best Team category. They got in by nabbing the eight seed in a dramatic Game 7 victory where the Thunder outlasted the Indiana Pacers. Their teamwork and resilience were basic the entire season.

A’ja Wilson stands out as she headlines the Best Athlete – Women’s Sports and Best WNBA Player categories. It’s worth noting that Wilson won both awards last year. Her track record has made her one of the front runners once again. She is not alone in her pursuit. A big congratulations to all of the other outstanding athletes nominated in the women’s sports categories.

Heavyweights Simone Biles and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone are just some of the amazing athletes nominated. Both are semi-finalists in the race for the Best Athlete in Women’s Sports. Their contributions to their respective sports have turned them into legends, having each won prestigious awards for their excellence.

In a separate category, USA Rugby’s Ilona Maher has carved out a notable place for herself as a nominee for Best Breakthrough Athlete. Then, Ezra Frech’s story underscores the powerful new path of athletes with disabilities in the Best Athlete with a Disability to inspire and motivate for change. Maher and Frech highlight the vibrant tapestry of experiences and gifts within the athletic population. Each of their contributions adds tremendous depth to this year’s nominations.

The 2023 ESPY Awards promise to celebrate not only individual achievements but team successes and the remarkable impact of athletes across all levels of competition. In particular, eight nominees have been singled out for setting themselves apart with stellar performances at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This year’s event has an incredible lineup reflecting that wide variety of talent!
