In a significant move to address this inequality, their women’s team will be playing all 11 of their Women’s Super League home matches at the Emirates Stadium this season. This decision is a historic and progressive step for the club, illustrating their desire to capitalise on the increasing visibility and support for the women’s game.
Last season, Arsenal’s women’s team enjoyed remarkable success, averaging an attendance of 34,000 at the Emirates Stadium, which has a total capacity of just over 60,000. The high point came during a February match against Tottenham, where an impressive crowd of 56,748 witnessed Arsenal’s 5-0 victory. Attendance is through the roof, proving just how much interest women’s football is generating. Arsenal’s women’s matches have already sold more than 415,000 tickets for the 2024/25 season — a stunning 20 percent spike from a year ago.
While Arsenal’s home matches in the WSL will take place at the Emirates, the club will continue to host next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) League Phase matches at Meadow Park in Borehamwood. The later knockout rounds will be held at either the Emirates or other main stadiums, further integrating the women’s team into the club’s overall infrastructure. Domestic cup competitions will be held at Borehamwood.
Arsenal’s women’s team, as seen just a few weeks ago when they won their second European championship title by defeating Barcelona. Since then, this tremendous achievement has stoked great anticipation among fans and players as well. Head coach Renee Slegers said she was proud of the direction the team has moved alongside its fans this year.
“I’m so proud of the journey we’ve been on with our supporters this season. From Borehamwood to the Emirates, on the road to every WSL and European destination we visited, and of course all the way to Lisbon, they’ve shown up and we’ve fuelled each other to a historic season for our club.” – Renee Slegers
Slegers said staging all WSL games at the Emirates marks the start of a new era for the club.
“For us, this is just the beginning, and bringing every WSL match to the Emirates is another step for more supporters to be part of this special journey. We’ll come back next season, with fire in our hearts, more determined, more ambitious, and more together than ever.” – Renee Slegers
The Emirates Stadium is renowned for its unique atmosphere, which players and supporters alike believe enhances performance on the pitch. Arsenal’s women’s team is preparing for an ambitious next season. They’re incredibly excited to continue expanding on the success and reach an even wider fanbase!
