Merseyside Police have launched an investigation and arrested a 53-year-old man. He has been charged with intent to kill, dangerous driving, and driving while drugged. The suspect is from the West Derby area of Liverpool. He remains in custody as police continue to question him about the crash that took place during the Premier League winners parade. Police have until midday on Wednesday to either release the suspect from custody or file formal charges.
The incident occurred on Water Street, Liverpool’s city centre. A motor vehicle drove through a crowd, running over dozens people and injuring many. 65 confirmed injuries were reported, more than 50 people being treated at several hospitals. As of Tuesday, 11 still were hospitalized, though their conditions were stable.
