Anthony Richardson Cleared for Practice After Eye Injury but Remains Out for Monday Night Football

It’s great to see Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson back on the practice field! He has been without justification for the serious incident that occurred over two months ago. Closely following the injury, which was complicated by a fractured orbital bone, rumors circulated about damage to Richardson’s vision and long-term health. Nevertheless, he preceded to place up exceptional progress after having surgery.

The near-catastrophic injury to Richardson’s right eye occurred during pregame warm-ups. After the accident, he had significant bleeding and loss of vision that required urgent care. He had surgery to fix the fracture, which has healed nicely.

“It’s improved a lot, actually. At the time it initially happened, I thought it was a lot of just swelling and all that. Couldn’t see much. The first two or three weeks after the surgery, everything was pretty much in shambles,” Richardson said.

Richardson has come a long way, but he continues to struggle with vision restrictions in his right eye. He admitted to these greater liabilities and noted his optimism regarding these challenges to his recovery.

It’s just a little different because of the impact in my eye, but most of it’s really the same. But surprisingly I was still able to function as normal and do everything I loved doing. So that’s not that bad, he added.

As Richardson gets back in practice, the Colts are focused on ensuring his health and ability to perform at a high level on the field. They haven’t definitively agreed to bring him back next season. Coach Shane Steichen made it clear that there’s no call to be made without testing Richardson first. The real damage This was the second time that Richardson suffered an ocular confrontation injury.

“Right now, Philip’s our starting quarterback,” Steichen confirmed, indicating that Philip Rivers will continue to lead the team while Richardson works his way back.

As Richardson resumes normal practice, a timeline for when he could return to game action remains unclear. He may not even get to play in the upcoming MNF match-up. That’s a very encouraging sign that the Colts are focusing more on his health and safety after his injury last season.
