Anthony Davis Exits Game Against Pacers with Leg Soreness

Anthony Davis had to leave the Lakers’ Wednesday matchup with the Indiana Pacers during the first quarter due to soreness in his left lower leg. This injury has raised alarm bells for the Dallas Mavericks and their fans. The 32-year-old big man had entered the game’s injury report as probable with bilateral Achilles tendinopathy. His sudden departure has of course opened up new questions regarding his health.

The incident unfolded with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter when Davis crouched down on the sideline as the Mavericks called a timeout. His leg gave out on that jumpstop, and after a moment of reluctance, he communicated to the bench that he had to come out of the game. Just shortly after, he was escorted to the locker room for further evaluation, raising alarming feelings among coaches and teammates in the process.

Prior to being dealt to Dallas, Davis was returning from a core muscle injury. Sadly, he pulled his adductor in his first match with the squad. During that one previous season, he appeared in only nine regular-season games with the Mavericks. He was brought in as the key player to the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade. The team opted to rule him out at halftime, the clearest indication that additional evaluation was required.

Davis has his work cut out for him once again with this newest injury. Last season he was ruled out for six weeks due to an adductor injury. As he navigates this new issue, the Mavericks are left to ponder how his absence might affect their performance moving forward. With Davis one of the team’s biggest contributors when healthy, his condition will be a story to watch in the coming days.
