Andree Jeglertz Takes Helm as Head Coach of Manchester City Women

Andree Jeglertz has replaced Nick Cushing as the new head coach of Manchester City Women. He replaces Gareth Taylor, who was dismissed in March after five years at the helm. Age 53, Jeglertz has considerable experience as a coach. He has led the Denmark national team and coached such clubs as Umea and Linkopings, both in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan. Lloyd has officially signed a four-year contract with Manchester City Women. He’ll be taking over formally after next summer’s European Championship.

Gareth Taylor’s departure followed a difficult season for the team, with lingering effects of injuries and a need for Manchester City to move in a fresh direction. With his long experience in women’s football, Jeglertz is the right man to breathe new life into the team. He has coached the Finland women’s team from 2010, qualifying them to the Euros in 2013.

Club Achievements

He would most notably find success at the club level by winning a UEFA Women’s Cup with Umea in 2004. Moreover, he was twice named Damallsvenskan Manager of the Year.

“Andree brings a wealth of experience at the top of the game as well as a real hunger to drive Manchester City forward.” – Therese Sjogran

Despite trying to make an identity from game one, Jeglertz’s coaching philosophy clearly prioritizes developing his players in the principles previously established. Clearly, he wants to draw on the talent of the extensive Manchester City Women’s squad. His intention is to raise their level to challenge for trophies across English and European competitions.

“Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in the world. There is so much talent in this group. One of my key things is to continue the job that’s been done and take it to the next level.” – Andree Jeglertz

In that capacity, Jeglertz gained valuable international management experience. As a player, he represented as a defender some of the top Swedish clubs, including Malmo and Umea. He has represented the Sweden U21 team three times during his playing career.

Therese Sjogran, who has collaborated with Jeglertz {05791800002} in Sweden, Europe and internationally within ITF’s framework, described him as an inspiring change-maker. She doubled down on his history of winning, his competitive nature, which she thinks will best resonate at Manchester City.

“I’ve seen his work first hand at Umea, Finland and Linkopings, so can understand why he’s already had a lot of success at club level. It’s clear he’s determined to build on that here at City in the coming years.” – Therese Sjogran

The appointment of Jeglertz is another sign of how serious Manchester City Women are in their building for the new season. He is a strategic thinker with leadership skills that are rare and remarkable. He’ll help the Cowboys from Day 1 and lead them into years of continued prosperity.
