Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Detroit Lions’ standout wide receiver, is on track to return for training camp after undergoing knee surgery this offseason. The 25-year-old offensive weapon is a First-Team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection. He is still out of the Lions’ off-season practices to focus on his rehabilitation.
The Lions began St. Brown’s NFL odyssey by drafting him in the fourth round of their 2021 draft. Thus began his career as a pro football player. Since then, he has become a focal point of the team’s offense. He has surpassed 100 receiving yards in 19 career games, third most in franchise history. In his last full season, St. Brown played all 17 games. He led the Lions in receiving yards, receptions, and touchdowns, aiding Detroit to a historic 15-win season in 2024.
As he approaches his fifth season, St. Brown wants the heads in the locker room to be on the team’s mission. Of winning another Super Bowl, he said, “Now we care about winning a Super Bowl. That’s all. His championship-level commitment to excellence is something that speaks to all of his teammates and coaches, as the ultimate goal is the pursuit of winning championships.
Even though St. Brown has been out at practice as of late with a foot surgery, his outlook on his recovery timeline is still very positive. As for his turbine, he explained, “I had knee surgery at the end of the season to cleanup some of the last debris outta there. Head coach Dan Campbell made that clear in his introductory remarks. He said a very optimistic timeline for St. Brown’s complete recovery would probably put him on the field in late November.
The Lions haven’t hidden their hopes for this season. St. Brown noted, “Obviously, we’ve got to make the playoffs to win the Super Bowl, but that’s understood by everyone, so we want to win the Super Bowl. Plain and simple.” This determined mindset is important because their shift into a second competitive season is fast approaching.
St. Brown and his wife, Mareya, last week welcomed a son, Ethan. This new addition to his family continues to inspire his drive as he juggles personal life and professional desire. As the Lions prepare for training camp in late July, St. Brown’s presence will be pivotal in establishing their offensive strategy and team chemistry.
