Alyssa Healy Announces Retirement from Cricket

Alyssa Healy, the esteemed captain of Australia’s women’s cricket team, has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket following the upcoming series against India. At just 35 years of age, Healy has already had a remarkable impact on the game, in and out of the arena. As a wicket-keeper she’s possibly the best in the world. She has scored over 7,300 runs and claimed 275 wickets in all formats making herself the most successful run getter.

Captain Healy’s leadership has been extraordinary. In 2025 he captained Australia to a historic 16-0 whitewash of England in the Ashes. As a player, she has now celebrated two World Cup victories. Her breathtaking knock in the final of the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, with a mind-boggling 170 runs against England, made her a national treasure.

Healy just won the World Cup, and has won six World Cups in T20. This feat only serves to emphasize her extraordinary range and talent, transcending across both formats. As she prepares for her farewell series against India, Healy is overwhelmed with pride. This T20 series, with the first Test match and three ODIs and three T20s all to be played in February and March, will undoubtedly be a high point for her career so far.

I’m still passionate about playing for Australia, but I’ve somewhat lost that competitive edge that’s kept me driven since the start, so the time feels right to call it a day, Healy stated.

Healy spoke warmly about her fellow teammates and the memories she’s built with them over the course of her career.

I’ll truly miss everything about it – aside from my team-mates, singing the team song and walking out to open the batting for Australia. This has been the greatest privilege of my life, representing my country. I am thankful for the chance to perform for my last time with the green and gold. she added.

Healy is a star on the diamond, so it makes sense that she is thriving in her new broadcasting career. As a pundit and commentator, she guarantees her imprint on cricket will last long past her retirement. She is married to Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc. In addition to all that, she is the niece of Ian Healy – another living legend of Australian cricket.
